
2023 Substance Abuse Education for Nurses - Preventing Opioid Addiction in Children with Chronic Pain
Catherine Soprano, MD, and Katherine Slamon, PhD, describes a multimodal approach to pain management for children with chronic pain. This approach when utilized successfully can improve quality of life for these children and reduces risk of opioid use or misuse.
This activity provides education on substance abuse which can be utilized to meet part of the license renewal requirements.
Target Audience
Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity participants will be able to:
- Describe the differences both in mechanism and treatment of acute pain vs. chronic pain.
- Understand how to discuss chronic pain with patients and families.
- Understand both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment strategies for helping youth and their families to manage chronic pain.
