
2023 Substance Abuse Education for Nurses: Managing Opioid Weans
TeNeasha Billingsley, MSN, CPNP-AC, an advanced practice nurse will discuss opioid medications and long-term effects from use, along with the weaning process and how to assess and treat withdrawal.
This activity provides education on substance abuse which can be utilized to meet part of the license renewal requirements.
Target Audience
Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity participants will be able to:
- Recall common opioid analgesic medications and their side effects.
- Identify the role of continuous IV narcotic infusions in PICU.
- List the effects of long-term opioid/benzo use.
- Describe the process of weaning.
- Discuss how to assess for and treat withdrawal symptoms.
